Tourism in Hainaut... What is this?
Hainaut used to have a prosperous heavy industry, today, however, it is the most important agricultural province of Wallonia. Hainaut is a green and agricultural province. The Tournaisis, the Pays des Collines, the Pays de Ath, the Val de Sambre et Thudinie, the Botte du Hainaut and the Hauts Pays are all green areas that have their own characteristics. Hainaut counts three nature parks and the Eau d¿Heure lakes among its remarkable natural heritage.
Hainaut has both a rural and urban character. Apart from Charleroi, the main cities all have this provincial air reminding us that the countryside is never far away.
Thanks to a coherent policy with regards to heritage, Mons, Tournai, Ath, Enghien and Lessines have a great city centre where the art of living shines through every day thanks to their remarkable treasures. There are so much beautiful cities such as Thuin on its rock or Chimay whose castle is, with those of Attre, Seneff, Beloeil and Le Roeulx, one of the architectural marvels of the province.
The MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART OF THE FRENCH COMMUNITY - MAC's (HORNU), the BAM - FINE ARTS MONS (MONS), the SCIENTIFIC ADVENTURE PARK (PASS) (FRAMERIES), THE BOIS DU CAZIER (MARCINELLE), the HOSPITAL OUR LADY WITH THE ROSE (LESSINES), the MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY (MONT-SUR-MARCHIENNE), the ARCHEOSITE® AND MUSEUM OF AUBECHIES (AUBECHIES), the BELFRY (THUIN) and the HANGING GARDENS (THUIN), the DISTILLERY OF BIERCEE (RAGNIES) ... make it a perfect tourist destination.
Proud of its past, Hainaut is a region that is currently, thanks to certain pilot projects, ahead of its time.
